Integration of foreign students in the Czech public higher education: difficulties and opportunities

The central theme of this diploma thesis is to analyze key stress factors, which foreign background students meet during their integration in the Czech Republic. All respondents are recruited from the Eastern European countries, for instance, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. Two main groups include: - students who are in the Czech Republic less than one year - students who are in the Czech Republic for more than one year The primary research method was using a semi-structured interview with eight respondents. For measuring acculturative stress level was used the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), which was filled in by 36 students. There were found differences in the adjustment level and language competence among two groups of students. This research has also confirmed the relationship between the length of stay in the Czech Republic a level of acculturative stress. Brno jako cílová destinace pro zahraniční studenty

The main topic of the thesis is the city of Brno as a destination for foreign students. In the first part is dedicated to the review of the available sources and literature focused on topics such as tourism, destination, destination management and marketing in tourism. In the second part of the thesis, the emphasis is put on research aiming to find out the main reasons, why the foreign students in Brno choose the city as a destination of their exchange program. At the same time, the research is focused on revealing the main problems and weaknesses of Brno according to the foreign students. In the last part, the author suggests several solutions how to deal with problems such as language barrier or rude behaviour of Brno’s citizens, both mentioned by foreign students as main problems in the city of Brno.
Foreign Students in Czechoslovakia in 70's and 80's

Foreign policy of Czechoslovakia in 70's and 80's depended completely on the policy of the Soviet union and its promoted ideology. The Czechoslovak socialist republic preserved the narrowest relationship with the Soviet union and its sattelite states in Eastern Europe, while the relationship with the western countries oriented to co-operation with the United states, was very cold and was beeing restored very slowly and gradually. The developing countries, especially those heading to a socialist establishment, had a special position in Czechoslovak foreign policy. Especially these countries benefited from Czechoslovak aid such as financial, military or material support. Another way Czechoslovakia implemented its development aid was offering scholarships for university students. The purpose of this form of aid was to contribute to the progress of developing countries, most of whom gained independence recently. Simultaneously the policy pursued another aim - to spread the socialist ideology and the influlence of the Soviet union around the world. Hundreds of foreign students studied in Czechoslovak universities every year during 70's and 80's. Most of them came from so called developing countries. Communication analysis and proposal of the Study in Prague project

The Master´s Thesis Communication analysis and proposal of the Study in Prague project is focused on the issue of communication to international students. Study in Prague is a project of five Prague public universities, whose common goal is to increase the number of international students in their foreign language programs through joint marketing communications. The goal of this thesis follows the effort of this project as it aims to analyse its current communication and to propose its potential changes and improvements. In order to choose an appropriate communication, the thesis is applying a situation analysis, SWOT analysis, Benchmarking and an own field survey in the form of Focus Group. In the proposal, there is the emphasis on digital communications, which is the most appropriate tool for the given target group of young students.
Information base for foreign students selected the Czech university

(in English) The aim of bachelor thesis is an analysis of information base for foreign students at Czech University of Life Sciences. The theoretical part of the thesis describes situation of foreign students at universities, economical aspects of recruiting foreign students to higher education institutions and programs of mobility offered by Czech universities. Further the thesis deals with problematical definition of concept information need connected with information seeking behavior and types of information needs. Information needs of foreign students are identified by analyzing foreign user studies. In the end of the theoretical part services of universities and academic libraries for foreign students are characterized. The practical part is aimed to analyse information base for foreign students at Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. At the beginning of practical part Czech University of Life Sciences is briefly described with its history, offered programs of mobility and numbers of foreign students at university in recent years. The language management of Russian-speaking university students and graduates in its socioeconomic context

This thesis is devoted to the language management of Russian-speaking university students and graduates in the socioeconomic context of the Czech Republic. The first, theoretical section, is based on the results of previous studies as well as statistical data. It delimits the concepts of language management and Language Management Theory describes the types of language management, and explains its processual character. The second, empirical section of the thesis, is devoted to a qualitative research study based on semi-structured interviews with 10 speakers of Russian as a first or second language who were studying or who had studies at universities in the Czech Republic. The aim of the research was to gain up-to-date information on respondents' subjective understanding of their position on the Czech labor market. The results reveal connections between language, communicative and socio- cultural (including socio-economic) management thus connect issues of language competence and linguistic repertoires and the socio-economic position of Russian-speaking university students and graduates in the Czech Republic.
